Amaryl (Glimepiride)

THE USE OF THE MEDICINE

Amaryl is used to treat type 2 diabetes patients who can not control blood sugar levels with diet and exercise alone. It is used along with diet and exercise. It can be used alone or with other antidiabetic drugs.

INDICATIONS FOR USE

Use Amaryl as your doctor prescribed. Check the label on the medicine for taking exact dose.
Take Amaryl orally with breakfast or first main meal, unless your doctor prescribes you no more.
Amaryl works best if taken at the same time each day. Continue to take Amaryl even if you feel well. Do not skip any one time.

THE MECHANISM OF ACTION

Amaryl is a sulfonylurea antidiabetic drug. It makes the pancreas produce insulin, which helps reduce blood sugar levels.

MISSED DOSE

If you miss a dose of Amaryl, take it as soon as possible. If at this point it is time for the next dose, skip the dose of rejection and return to your normal schedule the reception. Do not make the 2 doses at once.

STORAGE

Store at room temperature 15-30 degrees C, away from light and moisture. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep medicines away from children and pets.

PRECAUTIONS MEASURES

Do not use Amaryl if:

  • you are allergic to any ingredient in Amaryl;
  • you have certain severe problems associated with diabetes (eg, diabetic ketoacidosis, diabetic coma);
  • have burns of moderate to severe, or very high levels of acid in the blood (acidosis);
  • you are taking bosentan.

Contact your doctor immediately if any of these items apply to you.

Some medical conditions may interact with Amaryl. Tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following paragraph applies to you:

  • if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding;
  • if you are taking any prescribed or non-prescription medicines, herbal preparations, or dietary supplements;
  • if you have allergies to medicines, foods or other substances;
  • if you have had a severe allergic reaction (e.g., severe rash, hives, difficulty breathing, dizziness) to any other sulfonamide, such as acetazolamide, celecoxib, certain diuretics (e.g., hydrochlorothiazide), glipizide, probenecid, sulfamethoxazole, valdecoxib, or zonisamid;
  • if you have had a stroke if the liver kidney, thyroid problems, heart or blood vessels;
  • if you have any problems with the stomach or intestines (such as blocking the stomach or intestines, stomach paralysis), drink alcohol, or poorly nourished;
  • if you have type 1 diabetes, very poor health, high fever, severe infection, severe diarrhea, or high levels of acid in the blood, or have been seriously injured;
  • if you have a history of certain hormonal problems (e.g., adrenal or pituitary problems, syndrome of inappropriate secretion of antidiuretic hormone [SIADH]), or low sodium levels in blood;
  • if you are planning to operation.

Some medicines may interact with Amaryl. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially any of the following:

  • Bosentan because there may be problems with the liver, the efficacy of both drugs may be reduced;
  • Beta-blockers (e.g., propranolol) because the risk of lowering blood sugar levels can be increased. They may also hide certain signs of low blood sugar levels and make it trudnozametnym;
  • Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors (e.g., enalapril), anticoagulants (e.g. warfarin), anti-fungal azoles (eg miconazole, ketoconazole), chloramphenicol, clofibrate, fenfluramine insulin, metformin, monoamine oxidase (MAO);
  • inhibitors (e.g. phenelzine ), non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) (e.g., ibuprofen), phenylbutazone, probenecid, quinolone antibiotics (e.g. ciprofloxacin), salicylates (e.g. aspirin) or sulfonamides (e.g., sulfamethoxazole) because the risk of low blood sugar levels can be increased;
  • Calcium channel blockers (e.g., diltiazem), corticosteroids (e.g. prednisone), decongestants (e.g., pseudoephedrine), diazoxide, diuretics (e.g., furosemide, hydrochlorothiazide), estrogens, hormonal contraceptives (e.g. contraceptive pills), isoniazid, nicotinic acid, phenothiazines (e.g. promethazine), phenytoin, rifamycins (e.g. rifampin), sympathomimetics (e.g., albuterol, epinephrine, terbutaline), or thyroid supplements (e.g., levothyroxine) because they may decrease the effectiveness of Amaryl, increasing the sugar content in blood;
  • gemfibrozil because blood sugar may be increased or decreased.

SIDE EFFECTS

All medicines may cause side effects, but in many cases they do not appear, or insignificant.
Consult your doctor if any of these most common side effects continue or continue or become worse:

  • nausea.

Call you doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:

  • Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, shortness of breath, chest tightness, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), chest pain or irregular heartbeat, confusion, dark urine, loss of consciousness, fever, chills, symptoms Low blood sugar (e.g., anxiety, dizziness, drowsiness, palpitations, headache, dizziness, tremors, unusual sweating, weakness), severe or persistent blurred vision or other vision problems, unusual bruising or bleeding, unusual fatigue or weakness, yellowing eyes or skin.
