Prandin (Repaglinide)

Prandin is meglitinide antidiabetic that is used in the treatment of Type II (non-insulin-dependent) diabetes for patients who cannot control it with diet and exercise alone.

Use Prandin the way it is prescribed by your doctor. Follow the directions on the label.
Take Prandin at least 15-30 minutes before each meal. Do not take it on an empty stomach, only with meal.

Prandin is an antidiabetic agent. It works by reducing the level of glucose (sugar) in the blood and stimulates the release of insulin out of the pancreas. Prandin is useless for diabetes of the 1 type (insulin-dependent), because in this condition the pancreas is not able to extract insulin.

If you miss a dose of Prandin, skip the missed one and go back to your regular dosing schedule.

Keep this medicine at room temperature below 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 degrees C) away from light and moisture.

Discuss with your doctor about any prior medical condition that you may have including allergies to medicines, food or other substances, if you have a history of acidosis, kidney disease, or liver disease.

You must not take if you are allergic to any ingredient in it or if you have type 1 diabetes (insulin–dependent diabetes) or have elevated ketone levels due to diabetes or you are also taking gemfibrozil.

If you are pregnant or suspect that you are, then stop using Prandin and contact your doctor immediately.

It is unknown whether Prandin is secreted in breast milk. Avoid breast feeding while using the drug.

Certain drugs can interact with Prandin and hence, mention clearly to your doctor or pharmacist all medicines, dietary supplements and herbal prescriptions that you are taking.

Prandin may lower your blood sugar level and may make you feel symptoms like increased heartbeat, headache, chills, sweating, tremor, and increased hunger, changes in vision, nervousness, weakness, dizziness, drowsiness, or fainting. Contact your doctor immediately if these symptoms occur. To prevent low sugar, eat meals on a regular schedule and do not skip meals.
