DRUG TITLE
Anafranil (Clomipramine)
THE USE OF THE MEDICINE
Anafranil is used to treat obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD). It can also be used for other diseases identified by a doctor.
INDICATIONS FOR USE
Use Anafranil as your doctor prescribed. Check the label on the medicine for exact dosing instructions. Anafranil comes with additional information to the patient leaflet is a guide for the patient. Read it carefully. Read it every time you will register again Anafranil
Take Anafranil orally with food to reduce stomach upset.
It may take 2 to 3 weeks before you notice the effect of Anafranil.
Continue to use Anafranil even if you feel well. Do not miss any doses.
THE MECHANISM OF ACTION
Anafranil is a tricyclic antidepressant. It works by increasing the activity of certain chemicals in the brain, which helps to reduce obsessive-compulsive behavior.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as possible. If it is time to take the next dose, skip the missed time and return to your normal schedule the reception. Do not take 2 doses at once.
STORAGE
Store Anafranil at room temperature between 20 and 25 degrees C. Keep away from heat, moisture and light. Keep Anafranil away from children and away from pets.
PRECAUTIONS MEAURES
Do not use Anafranil if:
- you are allergic to any ingredient in Anafranil;
- you have taken furazolidone or a monoamine oxidase inhibitor (MAOI) (e.g., phenelzine) within the past 14 days, or you are taking astemizole or terfenadine;
- you are recovering from recent heart attack.
- Contact your doctor or other health care professional immediately if any of these items apply to you.
Some medical conditions may interact with Anafranil. Tell your doctor if you have any medical conditions, especially if any of the following applies to you:
- if you are pregnant, planning to become pregnant or are breast-feeding;
- if you are taking any prescribed or non-prescription medicines, herbal preparations, or dietary supplements;
- if you have allergies to medicines, foods or other substances;
- If you drink alcoholic beverages per day or have been cases of alcohol abuse;
- If you take medication for the thyroid gland or have an overactive thyroid;
- if you have problems there were adrenal gland, glaucoma, heart problems, kidney or liver disease, diabetes, seizures, problems urinating, blood diseases, or other problems with blood;
- if you have visited thoughts of suicide or similar behavior, bipolar disorder, or any other mental disorders;
- if you pass electroshock therapy, or if you assigned a transaction.
Some medicines may interact with Anafranilom. Tell your doctor if you are taking any other medicines, especially of the following:
- azoles antifungal agents (e.g., fluconazole), cimetidine, duloxetine, haloperidol, methylphenidate, mibefradil, phenothiazines (e.g. chlorpromazine), selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs) (e.g., fluoxetine), terbinafine, or valproic acid because they can increase the risk of side effects of Anafranil;
- astemizole, furazolidone, ketolid antibiotics (e.g., telithromycin), macrolide antibiotics (e.g., erythromycin), MAO inhibitors (e.g., phenelzine), pimozide, or terfenadine because the risk of high blood pressure, severe heart problems (e.g., irregular heartbeat ), or seizures;
- Barbiturates (e.g., phenobarbital) or phenytoin because they may decrease the effectiveness of Anafranil;
- Anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), carbamazepine, or sympathomimetics (e.g., phenylephrine) because the risk of their side effects may be increased Anafranilom;
- Clonidine, guanfacine guanesidin or because their effectiveness may be decreased due to Anafranil.
SIDE EFFECTS
Consult your doctor if any of these most common side effects do not pass or become worse:
- constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth, headache, irritability, loss of appetite, nausea, nightmares, sweating, fatigue, upset stomach, vomiting, weakness, weight loss or nausea.
Contact your doctor immediately if any of these serious side effects occur:
- Severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, itching, shortness of breath, chest tightness, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), blurred vision or other vision changes, changes in sex drive, chest pain, confusion, decreased sexual ability, fainting, fast, slow, or irregular heartbeat, fever, flushing, frequent or difficult urination; impulsive behavior or other unusual changes in behavior, mind or mood changes (e.g., increased anxiety, mood swings, agitation, irritability, nervousness, restlessness), numbness or tingling of the skin, panic attacks, ringing in the ears, seizures, severe dizziness or drowsiness, sore throat, abdominal pain, suicidal thoughts and behavior, swelling of the testicles, tremor, insomnia, difficulty walking or maintaining balance, twitching the face or tongue, uncontrolled movements or stiffness of arms and legs, unusual bleeding or bruising; worseningof depression, yellowing of the skin or eyes.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Anafranil should only those patients whom it is prescribed. Do not share it with others. If symptoms do not improve or if they become worse, check with your doctor.
