Drug Uses

Orlistat is recognized worldwide and proven effective by millions of people suffering from obesity. The drug is used for obesity management in adult and adolescent patients aged 12 or older.

Mode of Application

Use Orlistat as directed by your doctor.

• Look at the map on the drug packaging. Ask your health care provider any questions you may have
• Take Orlistat orally with each meal containing fat. Do not take more than 3 capsules per day
• If you have missed a tablet or the food does not contain any fat, do not take a dose of Orlistat
• Orlistat can reduce the absorption of vitamins. Therefore take polyvitamins once a day before going to bed.

Mechanism of Action

Orlistat is a drug leading to weight loss, aimed at fat absorption in your body, but not at suppressing your appetite. It has been proven effective and is fit for long-term use.

Orlistat may also help to decrease risk factors, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and high blood sugar, which, if untreated, may lead to other diseases such as hypertension and diabetes.

Missed Doses

If you miss a dose of Orlistat, take it as soon as you remember. Continue taking the drug as prescribed by the doctor.

Storage

Store Orlistat at the temperature between 68 and 77 F (20 and 25 С). Keep away from heat, moisture and light. Do not store in the bathroom. Keep out of reach of children and pets.

Precautions

Do not use the mark Orlistat, if

• You are allergic to any of its ingredients;
• You are not overweight;
• You have problems with absorbing food or bile problems (e.g. cholestasis);
• You have received organ transplants;
• You take cyclosporine.

Important Safety Information

• Diabetes patients - Orlistat may affect blood sugar levels. Check blood sugar levels closely. Ask your doctor, before changing the dose of drug.
• Orlistat should not be used in children younger than 18 years, the safety and effectiveness in these children have not been confirmed.
• Pregnancy and breastfeeding Do not Orlistat, if you are pregnant. If you are pregnant, contact your doctor. It is not known whether Orlistat is found in breast milk.

Side Effects

Consult a doctor immediately if any of these most widespread side effects persist or gain frequency

• Diarrhea, gas discharge, frequent or loose stools, oily spots, and problems with defecation.

• Severe allergic reaction (rash, hives, itching, difficulty breathing, swelling of the mouth, face, lips, or tongue), severe or persistent abdominal pain.
